DIY Felt Fox & Raccoon Hand Puppets

Fox & Raccoon

My friend introduced me to the world of felt puppets.  She kept asking me if I wanted to make some felt puppets with her and I kept telling her no.  I totally thought that felt was just not my thing.  She brought over her project anyways and I helped her make a felt chicken puppet and it turned out to be a lot of fun and most importantly cheap!  With Adam in medical school anything that is cheap has my name all over it.  When I say cheap each puppet was under $2 because I already had the hot glue and thread.  I got onto Pinterest and started to look up felt puppets and I could not find any patterns that I liked.  So I got busy and started designing my own free patterns.

Sewing is optional with these puppets.  I personally like the look of the stitching but you can hot glue everything.

FOX PUPPET

Felt Fox1

Supplies: 3 orange felt sheets, 1 white felt sheet, 1 small section of tan felt, 1 small section of black felt (if making the raccoon, use a scrap piece from there).

Optional: black, white and orange string

No Sewing Directions:

  1. Download the pattern and cut out the pieces.  Pin them to the felt and cut all of the pieces.  Layout everything so you can see where each piece will go.

  2. Start with gluing the body pieces together.  Remember that it should fit like a glove so DO NOT glue the bottom edge together.

  3. Next glue all of the white pieces of felt to the orange.  This will include the stomach, tip of the tail and the eyes.  After all of the white is glued on you will need to glue the black nose and eyes to the white.  Then glue the tan ears onto the orange head.  This will complete the head and the tail.

  4. Finish with glueing the finished tail and head to the body.

Sewing Directions:

  1. Download the pattern and cut out the pieces.  Pin them to the felt and cut all of the pieces.  Layout everything so you can see where each piece will go.

  2. Pin and sew the white stomach piece to the body,  Then sew the white tip of the tail to the tail and the white eyes to the orange head.  Next sew the black nose and pupils to the white eyes.  When I sewed the pupils on they are so small that instead of trying to sew around the edge I just sewed and x in the middle of them.  Finish by sewing the tan ears to the head.

  3. Sew the two body pieces together.  Remember that it should fit like a glove so DO NOT sew the bottom edge together leaving a space for your hand.

  4. Use a hot glue gun to attach the tail and head to the body.
